description Natrolite Overview
Natrolite is a zeolite-group tectosilicate mineral with the hydrated sodium aluminosilicate formula Na2Al2Si3O10·2H2O. It commonly forms colorless or white, slender needle-like crystals and can occur as radiating or fibrous aggregates in cavities and fractures of volcanic rocks. Natrolite is orthorhombic, has a Mohs hardness of about 5 to 6, and is commonly collected as a mineral specimen; its acicular habit accounts for the older name 'needle-zeolite'.
