description Body of St. Charbel Makhlouf Overview
St. Charbel Makhlouf (1828–1898) was a Lebanese Maronite Catholic monk and hermit from the village of Beqa-Kafra in northern Lebanon. He lived as a hermit at the Monastery of Saint Maron in Annaya, where his body is enshrined in a tomb that has become a major pilgrimage destination in Lebanon. After his death, his body was reportedly found incorrupt, and numerous posthumous healings have been attributed to his intercession.
He was canonized by Pope Paul VI in 1977, the first Lebanese saint formally recognized by the Catholic Church in modern times.
