Kublai Khan

description Kublai Khan Overview

Kublai Khan (1215-1294) was a grandson of Genghis Khan, a Mongol great khan, and the founder of China's Yuan dynasty. He proclaimed the dynasty in 1271 and completed the conquest of the Southern Song in 1279, bringing China under a single government controlled by the Mongol ruling house. His court was based at Dadu, present-day Beijing, and his reign combined Chinese administrative practices with a hierarchy that privileged Mongols and other non-Han groups.
