Llano Estacado

description Llano Estacado Overview

The Llano Estacado, or Staked Plains, is a semiarid tableland extending across parts of northwestern Texas and eastern New Mexico. It lies south of the Canadian River and is bounded in part by the Caprock and Mescalero escarpments, which separate the high plain from lower surrounding terrain. The plateau is broadly flat, gently slopes southeastward, and is marked by limited natural surface water, while irrigation and agriculture have transformed much of its modern landscape.
