Acrocorinth is a massive monolithic rock peak that served as the acropolis of ancient Corinth, Greece. Due to its steep slopes and commanding views, it functioned as a natural military fortress and was continuously utilized and fortified by the Byzantine, Frankish, Venetian, and Ottoman empires. The site is enclosed by multiple rings of massive defensive walls, the oldest of which date back to antiquity, featuring successive gates and towers. Acrocorinth also housed the famous Temple of Aphrodite in classical antiquity, later replaced by Christian and Islamic religious structures.
