51 Nemausa is a main-belt asteroid discovered by French astronomer Jean Laurent in 1858. It was named after Nemausus, the Roman name for the settlement that developed into Nîmes in southern France. The object is one of the early numbered asteroids found during the first decades of asteroid discovery. It belongs to the main-belt population, whose members orbit the Sun primarily between Mars and Jupiter.
