description Hypochlora alba Overview
Hypochlora alba is a North American short-horned grasshopper in the family Acrididae, commonly called the sage grasshopper, cudweed grasshopper, or greenish-white grasshopper. It inhabits dry prairie and other open grassland, especially where its principal food plant, white sagebrush or Louisiana sagewort, Artemisia ludoviciana, grows. The species is a specialist herbivore: nymphs and adults feed primarily on this plant and often remain inconspicuous among its foliage.
