Blacktail moray

description Blacktail moray Overview

The blacktail moray, Gymnothorax kolpos, is a marine moray eel in the family Muraenidae and a western Atlantic species. It has a green-brown head and front body with small pale spots, while the rear third of the tail becomes dark brown to black and carries three or four larger white spots. The species lives on soft bottoms from about 40 to 336 meters and has been recorded from South Carolina to the Gulf of Mexico; it can reach about 93 centimeters.
