85 Io is a carbonaceous main-belt asteroid discovered by Christian Heinrich Friedrich Peters at the Litchfield Observatory on 19 September 1865. It is about 155 kilometers in diameter, completes an orbit around the Sun in roughly 4.32 years, and rotates in about 6.88 hours. Its spectrum is classified as FC in the Tholen system and B in the SMASS system. The name refers to Io, a figure from Greek mythology, not Jupiter's volcanic moon.
