FullStory captures every DOM-level interaction—including mouse movements, clicks, scrolls, text input, and page transitions—at a granular level, producing pixel-accurate session replays. Hotjar also offers session replay, but FullStory's capture is generally more comprehensive and its search and segmentation capabilities across session attributes are more advanced.

FullStory provides privacy controls that allow you to mask specific data fields (such as credit card numbers, passwords, and email inputs) and exclude sensitive DOM elements from capture entirely. However, your organization remains responsible for properly configuring these masks, disclosing session recording in your privacy policy, and obtaining appropriate consent under GDPR.

FullStory tracks Rage Clicks (repeated frustrated clicking on unresponsive elements), Error Clicks, and console JavaScript errors, flagging the sessions where these occur so engineering teams can replay the exact user experience that triggered the problem. This goes well beyond what standard analytics tools like Google Analytics capture.
