Glossopleura

description Glossopleura Overview

Glossopleura is a genus of Middle Cambrian trilobites known especially from North American fossil deposits. It belongs to the order Corynexochida and the family Glossopleuridae, and its fossils are used to identify the Glossopleura Biozone. That biozone provides a named interval for regional Cambrian correlation, so Glossopleura is important not only as a trilobite genus but also as a marker in the study and relative dating of Cambrian sedimentary rocks.
