help Sterling by Music Man StingRay SR FAQ
What is the difference between the Sterling by Music Man StingRay SR and the regular Music Man StingRay?
The StingRay SR is a more compact, lower-priced design in the StingRay family, while the flagship Music Man StingRay 4 is built in the United States by Ernie Ball Music Man. The SR keeps the familiar active electronics and humbucking-pickup approach associated with the StingRay sound.
Does the StingRay SR have an active preamp?
Yes, the StingRay SR uses active electronics with an onboard EQ, so the player can shape bass, midrange, and treble from the instrument. It is designed to deliver the bright attack and growl commonly associated with StingRay basses.
Is the Sterling StingRay SR a good bass for smaller players?
Its more compact body makes it easier to handle than many full-size basses, especially when standing for long rehearsals. It still uses a standard bass scale and StingRay-style controls, so it is not a short-scale instrument.
What music is the StingRay SR suited for?
The humbucking pickup and active EQ work well for rock, funk, pop, and modern worship tones. Players can use the EQ to move from a sharp slap sound to a thicker fingerstyle tone without changing basses.
