Fort Vancouver was a Hudson's Bay Company trading post established in 1824 on the north bank of the Columbia River, near present-day Vancouver, Washington. Under the company's Columbia Department, it served as a regional headquarters for the Pacific Northwest fur trade and supported agriculture, manufacturing, shipping, and supply operations. Its workforce included employees and families from several cultural backgrounds. The original site is preserved as Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, with reconstructed buildings and archaeological remains.
