Premio Derby Colombiano

The Premio Derby Colombiano is a major Colombian Thoroughbred race associated with the country's three-year-old classic program. It is a national horse race, not a roller derby event or a local amateur competition.

Its historical venues have changed as Colombian horse racing moved between tracks, including the former Hipódromo de Techo and other Colombian racecourses. Reports also connect editions with venues such as the Hipódromo de los Andes and Hipódromo San Francisco.

It has traditionally been discussed alongside the Polla de Potrillos and Gran Premio Nacional as part of Colombia's three-year-old classic structure. That makes the Derby one of the key races used to assess the leading young Thoroughbreds in the country.

Both races center on three-year-old Thoroughbreds, but the Premio Derby Colombiano belongs to Colombia's national racing tradition. The Kentucky Derby is held at Churchill Downs in Louisville and forms the opening race of the United States Triple Crown.
