Decrypto

description Decrypto Overview

Decrypto is a team-based communication board game designed by Thomas Dagenais-Lespérance. Players divide into teams, and each team has a set of four secret keywords displayed on a screen visible only to their own members. Teams take turns transmitting numeric codes by giving one-word clues corresponding to their keywords, attempting to have teammates correctly decipher the code while preventing opponents from deducing the keywords over multiple rounds. The game was first published by Le Scorpion Masqué.

help Decrypto FAQ

How do the number codes work in Decrypto?

Each team has four secret keywords corresponding to the numbers 1 through 4. A clue giver receives a three-number code and gives three clues intended to lead teammates to those keywords in the correct order.

How does a team win or lose Decrypto?

Teams try to intercept the opponent's coded messages while successfully decoding their own. A team wins after collecting two interception tokens, while two miscommunication tokens cause it to lose.

Can you repeat clues in Decrypto?

Clues must relate to the secret keywords, but simply repeating old clues makes the code easier for opponents to intercept. The challenge is to create fresh associations that teammates understand without revealing the underlying word.

How is Decrypto different from Codenames?

Codenames asks players to connect public words while avoiding opposing or dangerous cards. In Thomas Dagenais-Lespérance's Decrypto, each team's four words remain hidden and opponents build an evolving record of clues to crack its numbered code.
