description Shore Temple Overview
The Shore Temple is a complex of granite Hindu temples located at Mamallapuram on the coast of Tamil Nadu, India, overlooking the Bay of Bengal. Constructed during the reign of the Pallava dynasty in the early 8th century, largely under Narasimhavarman II, it is among the earliest structural stone temples in South India. The complex contains three shrines dedicated to the deities Shiva and Vishnu, reflecting the religious diversity of the Pallava period. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram in 1984.
