Surprisingly, the Timex Marlin Automatic does not feature the brand's famous Indiglo backlight technology. This is because the watch uses an automatic movement rather than a quartz movement, which would require a battery to power the electroluminescent backlight. Instead, it relies on luminous paint applied to the hands and hour markers for low-light visibility.

The Timex Marlin Automatic features a domed acrylic crystal, which is intentionally chosen to enhance the watch's vintage aesthetic. While acrylic is more prone to scratching than sapphire, it is highly shatter-resistant and can be easily polished to remove minor scuffs.
