Cystoderma amianthinum

description Cystoderma amianthinum Overview

Cystoderma amianthinum, commonly called the earthy or common powdercap, is a small saprotrophic mushroom with an ochre to orange-brown cap covered in granular or mealy scales. It grows on soil among mosses in damp grassland, heathland, forest clearings, and conifer woods across much of the Northern Hemisphere. A pale stem with a fragile granular ring and crowded pale gills helps distinguish it, but identification within the Cystoderma group can be difficult and it is not recommended for eating.
