Swanndri Bushshirt

The traditional Swanndri Bushshirt is crafted from heavy-duty, 100% wool fabric, historically utilizing thick flannel. This dense material is designed to keep the wearer warm and dry in the notoriously harsh New Zealand weather.

Because the bushshirt is made of heavy wool, it is highly recommended to hand wash it in cold water using a mild wool detergent. You should never use hot water or put it in a drying machine, as this will cause the traditional flannel to shrink significantly.

The Swanndri was originally developed in New Zealand in the early 1900s, specifically in the 1930s, for rural workers. It was created to provide durable, weatherproof protection for farmers and forestry workers exposed to cold, wet conditions.

The distinctive lace-up or button-up neck design allows the wearer to easily ventilate the shirt if they get too warm while working outdoors. It also provides a tight, secure seal against the neck to keep wind and rain out when fully closed.
