Kriegspiel

description Kriegspiel Overview

Kriegspiel is a chess variant in which neither player can see their opponent's pieces, creating a game of incomplete information. A referee manages the board and announces only what is necessary: whether a proposed move is legal or illegal, whether a capture has occurred and on which type of square, and whether the player's king is in check and from which direction. The game was played at Cambridge University in the mid-20th century and remains a recognized variant in chess literature.
