Axios River

description Axios River Overview

The Axios is a major Balkan river known as the Vardar through most of North Macedonia. It flows for roughly 388 kilometres from the uplands of North Macedonia through Greece, entering the Aegean Sea west of Thessaloniki. Its lower course forms part of a broad delta and wetland complex shared with the Aliakmon and Loudias rivers, an ecologically important area for waterbirds and other wildlife.
