description Ground Crab Spider (Xysticus cristatus) Overview
Xysticus cristatus, known as the ground crab spider, is a crab spider found across much of the Palearctic region, including Europe and parts of Asia. It does not build a capture web. Instead, it usually waits motionless on low vegetation or near the ground with its front legs spread, then seizes insects that come within reach. Its hunting method and crab-like stance distinguish it from web-building spiders.
