description Berserk Overview

Kentaro Miura's Berserk follows Guts, the Black Swordsman, through a dark fantasy world shaped by human violence and supernatural terror. His enormous sword, iron prosthetic hand and battle scars reflect a brutal past. The Brand marks him for sacrifice and attracts hostile forces, but he resists that fate. Puck, an elf whose presence initially irritates him, accompanies his pursuit of vengeance.

Graphic violence and trauma make this a manga for mature readers. Its appeal extends beyond combat to the struggle to preserve human bonds under extreme pressure. The opening 16 unnumbered chapters, often labeled 0A to 0P, span volumes 1 to 5. Chapter 83 was excluded from volume 13 at Miura's request, and volume 14 contains Berserk: The Prototype.

Following Miura's death, Studio Gaga, his assistants, took over illustration from chapter 365 under the supervision of his close friend Kouji Mori.
