description Cadbury Eclairs Overview
Cadbury Eclairs are individually wrapped chewy caramel sweets with a soft chocolate center. The caramel forms the outer layer and gradually softens while the piece is chewed, while the chocolate filling supplies the cocoa flavor associated with the product. Despite the name, Cadbury Eclairs are confectionery candies rather than the cream-filled pastry called an éclair, and they are intended as small, single-serving sweets in Cadbury's packaged range.
help Cadbury Eclairs FAQ
Why are Cadbury Eclairs called eclairs when they're not a pastry?
Despite the name, they have nothing to do with the oblong cream-filled éclair pastry — they're chewy caramel sweets with a soft chocolate center. The caramel shell gradually softens as you chew, releasing the cocoa-flavored filling from the middle.
Who makes Cadbury Eclairs today?
They're still sold under the Cadbury name, but Cadbury itself has been part of Mondelez International since the early 2010s, following Kraft's takeover of Cadbury in 2010. Production continues for markets including the UK and India, where Eclairs are hugely popular.
When were Cadbury Eclairs first introduced?
They're commonly cited as launching in the UK in the mid-1960s. The brand has since become one of Cadbury's longest-running sweets, especially dominant in India where Eclairs helped establish Cadbury's mass-market reach.
What's the difference between Cadbury Eclairs and Werther's Original?
Werther's Original, made by August Storck, is a hard boiled caramel candy, while Cadbury Eclairs are chewy caramel with an actual soft chocolate center. The chocolate filling is what sets Eclairs apart from essentially every plain caramel sweet on the shelf.
