106 Dione

description 106 Dione Overview

106 Dione is a relatively large main-belt asteroid, a minor planet orbiting the Sun in the region between Mars and Jupiter. James Craig Watson discovered it in 1868 and named it for Dione, a female figure in Greek mythology who is described in some traditions as a Titaness. Saturn's moon Dione has the same mythological name, but it is a separate body orbiting Saturn rather than the Sun.
