29 Amphitrite is a large asteroid in the main asteroid belt and is classified as an S-type asteroid, a category generally associated with stony silicate-rich material. It was discovered by German astronomer Albert Marth in 1854. Its name comes from Amphitrite, the sea goddess of Greek mythology and consort of Poseidon. As a main-belt object, it orbits the Sun between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.
