120 Lachesis is a large asteroid in the main asteroid belt, the region between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. It was discovered by Alphonse Borrelly in 1872 and named after Lachesis, one of the Moirai, or Fates, in Greek mythology. The name refers to the figure who measured the thread of a person’s life. The object is classified as a dark asteroid associated with the carbon-rich C-type group.
