description 61 Virginis b Overview

61 Virginis b is the innermost known planet in the 61 Virginis system, orbiting a nearby Sun-like star about 28 light-years away. It has a minimum mass of approximately 5.1 Earth masses and completes an orbit in about 4.2 days, so it is classified as a short-period super-Earth rather than an Earth analogue. The planet was identified from the small Doppler motion that its gravity induces in the host star.
