description Acrylic Fiber Overview
Acrylic fiber is a synthetic textile fiber made from polymers based primarily on acrylonitrile. It is light, warm and resistant to sunlight, mildew and moth damage, so it is used in clothing, blankets, carpets and other fabrics. Acrylic is often manufactured to imitate the appearance and feel of wool, although it has different moisture, heat and durability characteristics. DuPont marketed an early acrylic fiber under the name Orlon.
