Albert Ellis

description Albert Ellis Overview

Albert Ellis was an American psychologist and psychotherapist who developed rational emotive behavior therapy, commonly abbreviated REBT, during the 1950s. The approach holds that emotional distress is influenced not simply by events but by rigid or irrational beliefs about those events. REBT uses active questioning, behavioral exercises, and practice to help clients replace absolutist demands with more flexible evaluations, and it contributed to the development of cognitive behavioral therapies.
