Alberto Gonzales is an American lawyer who served as the 80th Attorney General of the United States from 2005 to 2007 under President George W. Bush, becoming the first Hispanic person to hold the office. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he served as general counsel to Governor Bush, as a justice of the Texas Supreme Court, and as White House Counsel before leading the Justice Department. He resigned in 2007 amid controversy over the dismissals of several U.S.
