Amur Delta

The Amur Delta is located in Russia's Far East, where the Amur River flows into the Amur Estuary near the town of Nikolayevsk-on-Amur. The Amur River forms a significant portion of the border between Russia and China before reaching its delta.

The Amur Delta's wetlands serve as critical habitat for several endangered species, most notably the Siberian crane, which is one of the most critically endangered crane species in the world. The delta's extensive marshes and river channels also support diverse fish populations and migratory bird species.

The Amur River is approximately 4,444 kilometers (about 2,761 miles) long, making it one of the longest undammed rivers in the world. It flows from the mountains of northeastern Mongolia through the Russian Far East before reaching its delta at the Sea of Okhotsk.

Nikolayevsk-on-Amur is a small town situated near the mouth of the Amur River at its delta, founded in 1850 as one of Russia's first settlements in the Far East. It was historically an important Russian naval and trading outpost on the Pacific coast, though it declined in importance after the development of Vladivostok.
