Awa Shrine

description Awa Shrine Overview

Awa Shrine is a Shinto shrine in Tateyama, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, dedicated to Ame-no-Futodama-no-Mikoto, a deity associated with ritual and the origins of sacred objects. It is regarded as the ichinomiya, or highest-ranking shrine, of the former Awa Province, a historical region corresponding broadly to the southern part of the Boso Peninsula. The shrine thus combines local religious practice with the old provincial shrine system.
