Baga Oigor Petroglyphs

The Baga Oigor petroglyphs are located in the Bayan-Ulgii province of western Mongolia. They form a crucial part of the broader Altai mountain range rock art collection.

The site contains a massive collection of over 10,000 individual figures, making it one of the densest concentrations of rock art in northern Asia. The engravings depict a wide variety of wildlife and human activities.

The complex documents thousands of years of human history and cultural transitions in the Altai mountains, from prehistoric hunting to the emergence of nomadic pastoralism. In recognition of this, the petroglyphs were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The thousands of carvings at Baga Oigor depict scenes of ancient life, including hunting of wild animals and herding of livestock. They also feature symbolic signs and later representations of Turkic warriors and their horses.
