help Balloon (Inflatable Cube) FAQ

How does an origami balloon turn from a flat model into a cube?

The final folded form contains an internal pocket connected to a small opening. Blowing gently into that opening separates the layers and expands the model into a hollow, roughly cubical shape.

What base is used to fold the inflatable origami balloon?

The model normally begins from the traditional waterbomb base, made by collapsing a square along diagonal and horizontal creases. Its triangular flaps are folded and tucked to seal most of the structure before inflation.

What paper works best for an inflatable origami cube?

Ordinary lightweight origami paper works well because it holds creases while still allowing the layers to expand. Thick cardstock is a poor choice because the tucked flaps become bulky and the model may not inflate cleanly.

Why does air escape when I try to inflate the origami balloon?

The most common causes are loose corner pockets, an opening that has been folded shut, or a tear near the inflation hole. Reinforcing the creases and pinching around the opening while blowing usually directs more air into the internal chamber.
