The banded moray (Gymnothorax rueppellii) is a small marine eel in the family Muraenidae. It occurs in the Indian Ocean and Red Sea and is distinguished by dark vertical bands across its body. Its elongated form and habit of sheltering in reef crevices are typical of morays, which are predatory fishes that hunt smaller marine animals from cover.
