Barredfin moray

description Barredfin moray Overview

The barredfin moray (Gymnothorax zonipectis) is a marine moray eel in the family Muraenidae. It is recognized by the dark bars or bands that mark the dorsal fin, a feature that helps distinguish it from similarly shaped morays. The species occurs in the eastern Pacific and lives on coastal reefs and rocky bottoms. As with other morays, it spends much of the day in crevices and uses its strong jaws to capture small fish and invertebrates.
