Bărăgan Plain

description Bărăgan Plain Overview

The Bărăgan Plain is a broad steppe plain in southeastern Romania and the eastern part of the Wallachian Plain. It lies between the Danube and the Buzău and Călmățui river areas, with the Ialomița River dividing it into northern and southern subregions in some geographic descriptions. Its flat loess-covered terrain and chernozem soils support large-scale cultivation of cereals, maize, sunflower, and rapeseed, while the warm, moderately dry continental climate creates recurring water deficits for crops.
