Barking Frog

description Barking Frog Overview

The Barking Frog (Craugastor augusti) is a large terrestrial amphibian native to the rocky regions of Texas, New Mexico, and parts of Mexico. It is named for its distinctive, resonant dog-like call used by males to establish territory and attract mates. Unlike many amphibians, this species exhibits direct development, meaning its eggs hatch directly into tiny terrestrial froglets, completely bypassing a free-swimming tadpole stage.
