Bengal Plain

description Bengal Plain Overview

The Bengal Plain is a broad alluvial lowland in the eastern part of the Indian subcontinent, formed largely by sediments deposited by the Ganges, Brahmaputra, and Meghna river systems. It covers most of Bangladesh and extends into the Indian states of West Bengal and adjoining areas. Its fertile floodplain soils support intensive agriculture, while the low elevation, monsoon rains, river flooding, and dense settlement create recurring environmental risks.
