description Bermejo River Overview

The Bermejo River is a major river of the Gran Chaco region of South America. It rises in Bolivia, flows eastward through northern Argentina, and eventually joins the Paraguay River system. The river carries a heavy load of suspended sediment, which gives its water a reddish appearance and contributes to unstable banks and shifting channels. Its floodplain supports wetlands, forests, and agricultural and rural communities across a broad subtropical basin.
