Blackspotted smoothhound

description Blackspotted smoothhound Overview

The blackspotted smooth-hound (Mustelus punctulatus) is a demersal houndshark in the family Triakidae, described by Risso in 1827. It lives on continental shelves of the subtropical eastern Atlantic from the Mediterranean to Western Sahara, from the surface to about 250 m. The name refers to small black spots that may occur on the body. It is listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN, although records are complicated by confusion with related smoothhounds.
