description Brandberg Overview
Brandberg is a prominent granite massif in the northwestern Namib Desert of Namibia, distinguished as the country's highest mountain at 2,573 meters. It rises abruptly from the surrounding flat desert landscape as an isolated highland, or inselberg, covering an area of approximately 650 square kilometers. The mountain is highly significant for its archaeological heritage, containing numerous rock shelters and over 45,000 documented rock art paintings created by the indigenous San people. The most famous of these works, the "White Lady" panel, was discovered in the Tsisab Ravine and remains a major subject of study for archaeologists.
