Brisaster antarcticus

description Brisaster antarcticus Overview

Brisaster antarcticus is a species of heart urchin, a group of irregular sea urchins adapted to life on or within soft marine sediments. It occurs in Antarctic waters, where its flattened, heart-shaped body and burrowing lifestyle distinguish it from the more spherical sea urchins associated with rocky surfaces. The species was described by Ludwig Döderlein in 1906 and is intended here as a taxonomic entry for an extant Antarctic echinoderm.
