description Brown antechinus Overview
The brown antechinus is a small carnivorous marsupial native to eastern Australia and was formally described by William Sharp Macleay in 1841. It feeds mainly on insects and other invertebrates, shelters in nests that may be shared by several individuals, and is active largely at night. The species is also known for synchronized annual breeding, after which most males die because of the severe physiological stress associated with an extended mating period.
