description Brown Guyot Overview
Brown Guyot is a flat-topped submarine volcanic mountain in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. Like other guyots, it is interpreted as the eroded and partly submerged remnant of a former volcanic island or seamount whose summit was planed off near sea level before the seafloor subsided. Brown Guyot is associated with the Marcus-Wake seamount region and is noted in geological studies for ferromanganese crusts that formed on exposed hard-rock surfaces.
