Castillo de Gibralfaro

description Castillo de Gibralfaro Overview

Castillo de Gibralfaro is a hilltop fortress in Málaga, Spain, originally built in the 14th century by the Nasrid dynasty's Yusuf I. Constructed on the ruins of an earlier Phoenician lighthouse, it was designed to protect the Alcazaba, a neighboring Moorish palace-fortress, and is connected to it by a double line of defensive walls. The castle famously withstood a three-month siege by the Catholic Monarchs in 1487. It currently houses an interpretive center detailing the fortress's military history.
