Ceramium virgatum

description Ceramium virgatum Overview

Ceramium virgatum is a filamentous red marine alga in the family Ceramiaceae. It forms bushy, repeatedly branched fronds that may be brownish red to yellowish green, with corticated axes and inward-curved branch tips; it grows on rock, shells, and other algae in intertidal and shallow subtidal habitats. The species is useful to phycologists studying northeastern Atlantic seaweeds, although similar Ceramium taxa can make field identification difficult.
