description Chinese SS7 Overview

The Shaoshan 7 (SS7) is a family of alternating current electric locomotives developed for the Chinese railway network. Manufactured by CSR Zhuzhou Locomotive, the series was introduced in the 1990s to handle both mainline freight and passenger services. The locomotives are distinguished by their Bo-Bo-Bo wheel arrangement, which was specifically designed to improve adhesion and navigate the tight curves of mountainous railway routes. Several sub-variants of the SS7 were later produced to meet diverse operational requirements.
