In the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, men dive from platforms at 27 meters and women from 20 to 23 meters. These heights are nearly three times the 10-meter platform used in Olympic diving, making water entry technique critical for safety.

The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, launched in 2009, is the premier competitive circuit for high diving. It features multiple stops at natural and urban cliffside venues around the world each season, with athletes accumulating points across events to determine an overall champion.

Cliff divers entering the water from 27-meter platforms reach speeds of approximately 85 to 90 kilometers per hour on impact. The force is intense enough that divers must enter feet-first with a streamlined body position to reduce the risk of spinal compression and other serious injuries.

Common injuries in competitive cliff diving include bruising from water impact, shoulder and back strain, and in severe cases, spinal compression injuries from imperfect entries. Divers undergo extensive training to perfect their entry technique, as entering the water incorrectly from 27 meters can cause significant harm.
